A Vintage Taisho-era Akago・赤後 Kamisori ・New Old Stock. Including the original box. This piece is in absolute great condition for its age. It shows some wonderful file marks on back and the typical head-form of the era. We were the first to put a sharp edge on this wonderful Kamisori.
We also added a rattan handle wrapping with several layers of Urushi lacquer.

Engraved on the lid is an Ukiyo-e woodblock print of Tsukioka Yoshitoshi`s "Suffering from pain courtesan of the period" out of the series "32 feminine faces of everyday life" from 1888. The print shows an Geisha with the highest of ranks "Oiran" getting a tattoo. It was common that Geishas got the names of their highest valued customers as a secret tattoo.
