A rare vintage Taisho-period kamisori by Nihon Taro・日本太郎・literally Taro Japan.
A meticulously restored Kamisori, we kept parts of the old handle wrapping but restored it exactly like the old handle was as well, including the red colored bamboo under the Japanese rattan.
Presented in a handcrafted paulownia wood box with engraving. Shave ready.

Full Description

Following the centuries-old tradition of Japanese sword making, this kamisori is hand forged from two distinct layers — a high carbon Tamahagane steel cutting edge and a soft iron body. Tamahagane is the legendary steel made from iron sand, the same material used to forge Samurai swords for centuries. The hard steel delivers a remarkably fine edge, while the iron provides the flexibility needed for a controlled, precise shave.

This blade is intentionally non-stainless. Stainless alloys sacrifice hardness for corrosion resistance, but the Tamahagane steel used here achieves a superior level of sharpness that holds its edge far longer between honings. This is the same principle that has guided Japanese bladesmiths for centuries — performance over convenience.

To preserve your kamisori, simply wipe the blade dry after each use and apply a thin layer of protective oil. With proper care, this razor will serve you for a lifetime.

The handle is wrapped in Japanese rattan using a traditional binding technique, offering a secure and comfortable grip. The blade rests in an upcycled vintage Japanese silk kimono cloth, inside a handcrafted paulownia wood box — a naturally moisture-regulating wood used for centuries in Japan to protect precious objects.

Every kamisori we offer is fully disinfected, honed and shave ready.

In Japan, kamisori are used not only for men's beard grooming but also for delicate facial hair removal for women — a testament to the refined sharpness of these blades.

Box Design

Engraved on the lid is an Ukiyo-e woodblock print of Utagawa Kunisada`s "Nakamura Utaemon" from his Kabuki actor series "O-kubi-e" Nakamura Utaemon can be seen here in the role of the Minamoto clan general Kumagai Naozane.
