This huge handmade folding knife comes from the Nagao Kanekoma Factory (長尾兼古刃物製作所) in Miki City, Japan — the last workshop officially allowed to use the name Higonokami. The factory has been making these knives for over 100 years, passing down traditional techniques from generation to generation.

The blade uses the Warikomi method: a hard steel core sandwiched between softer outer layers. This creates a knife that’s both sharp and durable.

At the heart of the blade is Aogami (Blue Paper Steel) — a high-carbon tool steel made in Japan. It holds a fine edge longer than most steels and is favored by professional bladesmiths. Because it’s not stainless, we recommend occasional oiling with camellia oil to prevent rust.

The handle features an engraved tiger in a bamboo forest, finished in gold-colored lacquer. The hilt is black-lacquered steel, giving the knife a striking yet understated appearance.

The blade is Friction hold without locking mechanism and can be opened with the "Chikiri" Lever on the back that protrudes slightly when the blade is closed. When using it the thumb rests on this Chikiri lever and assures it stays open.

The knife comes in a lightweight paulownia wood box, traditionally used in Japan to store fine tools and blades. Paulownia (kiri) wood is naturally resistant to humidity and insects, making it ideal for protecting high-carbon steel like Aogami. It helps keep the blade dry, safe, and in top condition over time.
